![]() ![]() ![]() It just likes a core of the CPU (so a virtual machine works in that regard) with as much speed as possible, and lots of RAM (and of course, enough storage). Revit is a pretty old app that I believe is just single-threaded anyway in most aspects, outside the rendering engine. ![]() But, there needs to be enough system resources to run MacOS (and apps) + Windows OS (and apps).įor example, I ran Revit both ways on my 2019 Mac mini (i7, 16GB RAM though that was a bit tight) with an AMD RX580 eGPU. This allows you to run a Windows app in a window right alongside your Mac apps, which is quite nice, and you don’t have to reboot into Windows. If the Mac has enough storage and RAM, I have also found Revit to run fairly well using a virtual system like Parallels. I’m nearly certain the iGPU of a MBA can’t do it. I’d have to look, but I’m doubting a MacBook Air can meet the minimum requirements, even if an eGPU (external GPU) powerful enough was added. At that point is essentially is a Windows computer with what ever specs the machine has. If it is a Mac with an Intel CPU (as opposed to the new Apple Silicon Macs), that has enough base system requirements, Revit should work by creating a dual-boot setup with Boot Camp. We’ll have to see where they go on the GPU front, but things are going to get interesting (especially with Microsoft seriously looking at the ARM direction). ![]() It’s hard to say what will all play out, but at this point, Apple has some of the fastest stuff, GPU aside. It’s quite power efficient AND blazing fast. (I used to do a lot of IT consulting years ago.)Īpple Silicon is now a whole different thing. Macs have always been great in this regard (it was proven in various studies decades ago, actually). There is a lot of complexity involved, from how the OS works, to what software is available, to how everything in your workflow works together and is efficient (or not). Any computer will throttle if the CPU gets into danger in terms of heat.īut, raw power doesn’t necessarily equal productivity. There were a couple of models of MacBook Pros where some thought some throttling was taking place, a few years back when Intel missed their design/power targets (Apple plans years ahead on designs). ![]()
